Black dogs do not fare well in shelters; they are often the last to be adopted and most likely to be euthanized. Even though black dogs are just as loving and playful, shelter staff can have a hard time photographing them—and a good photograph is crucial to creating interest for a potential adopter.

Baby Piglet arrived as a foster dog on March 4, 2017. I enthusiastically anticipated cuddling and comforting the tiny special needs puppy, and learning to communicate with and care for such a disabled dog. This optimistic fantasy quickly turned to “What have I gotten myself into?” when the reality of Piglet hit.
“I picked Gill up from ACC last month as a volunteer with Foster Dogs. After a weekend with us, we were so in love, and excited for him to find an amazing longer-term foster or adoptive home! Unfortunately his next foster didn't work out and when I got the call to pick him back up, my heart skipped a beat; I just had this feeling he was coming back to his forever home.”

Life’s a beach when you’re a foster dog! Thanks to some creative folks in Brooklyn, a group of lucky foster dogs got a chance to feel like they were having a day at the beach – indoors! Each of these dogs was up for adoption at the time of their shoot last week, and would you believe some of them have already found their forever homes? Foster Dogs invited eleven dogs in foster care to Gowanus Brooklyn, and had the best afternoon!
